Rheumatoid Factor

Rheumatoid Factor (RF) is the autoantibody (antibody directed against an organisms' own tissues) that is most relevant in Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is one of the initial tests that is used to determine if you have RA (after which it is fairly uncommon to have the test repeated). In addition to this simple blood test, the C-Reactive Protein and ESR rates are usually measured in blood also. In combination with these blood tests, usually a physical examination of the inflammed joints is undertaken by a professional in the area of Rheumatism (a 'Rheumatologist') and the diagnosis can be made.

If you have been recently diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis then make sure you read through the information available in this Rheumatoid Arthritis Blog regarding diet and disease. It is imperative to keep your inflammation levels as low as possible, which can also be done with RA drugs like DMARD's / Methotrexate / Pregnisone / Biologics and many others.
